A DC Knights of Columbus Fundraiser for Mustard Seed Communities
The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic fraternal organization in the world, committed to our founding principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. The order was founded in 1882, by Fr. Michael J. McGivney, to render financial aid to members and their families in times of need or death. Today, the Knights continue to not only serve their members, but also the community as a whole – contributing financial resources and volunteers to charitable causes around the world – especially where it is needed most.
Will you help us raise $10,000 to build a chicken coop?
In the spring of 2017, the Saint John Paul II Seminary went on a mission trip to serve Mustard Seed Communities (MSC) in Jamaica. The seminarians served at a home that takes care of youth with disabilities who have been abandoned or have no one to take care of them. Mustard Seed is doing the Lord’s work in providing love and care for God’s most vulnerable children.
Mustard Seed has reached out to the seminary community, asking for assistance in building a chicken coop that will help provide food and financial assistance to the community. This fundraiser is for a poultry house at Jacob’s Ladder, MSC’s home for adults with disabilities and the main sustainable agriculture site. The coop will hold approximately 300 chickens. All funds raised for this project will go towards covering the cost of the complete setup of the chicken coop, the waterers, and electricity.
The Knights of Columbus has always stood in solidarity with our Priests, and our seminarians. As such, we are asking all members of the local faith community, to consider donating to this worthy cause – not only to support the needy in Jamaica but also to support our seminarians in this project.
